When a designer is trying to come up with names for patterns, or colorways, it can be very difficult to be creative. I mean, we just used all our creative juices on the design, right!?!?!? So I started naming my designs with something that would revolve around a woman who inspires me. For example:
Lucy Maud Montgomery
Most known as being the author of Anne of Green Gables. My first introduction to Anne was the 1980's Canadian film starring Megan Follows. *sigh* I love these movies so much and have watched them so many times. It was until my favorite podcast, The History Chicks, cover her that I really discovered who she was (and finally read the books). She is Episode 88.
Born in Clifton, Prince Edward Island, Canada (now New London). Raised by her grandparents, she had a very active imagination, something that she shares with Anne. Eventually she married a minister and had two sons. I won't get too much into her life, I'll leave that to the experts.
Last fall, my mother asked me to make her a hooded cowl/scarf. I was able to find patterns, but none that I liked, or that would work with the yarn my mom wanted. So I figured I would design my own. And on the way home from my parents house, I was listening to THC podcast on Maud. My family used to live in a small town named Clifton, so when I heard that Maud was born in a Clifton - BOOM! - the Clifton Cowl was born! Plus my mom is a red head, like Anne.
Megan Follows as Anne Shirley
Blessings,
Lori
